Women’s Rugby Defeats James Madison in Mason-Dixon Match
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Golden Rams took care business in their home opener, defeating a visiting James Madison University squad, 67-5, in a Mason-Dixon Conference women's rugby match Saturday afternoon on South Campus. West Chester (2-0) won its second consecutive match of the season, receiving contributions from everyone on the team. Overall, seven different Golden Rams recorded a try in the win. Sophia Schwab (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) gave West Chester an early lead by scoring a try in the first minute, while also registering her second try at the 39th minute mark right before the half. Schwab finished with 10 points on those two trys. Leading the way in points for the Golden Rams was Arielle Gantt (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein)tallying 15 points on three trys. Senior Nicole Benedetti (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) continued her strong play by posting 10 points on two trys today, giving her 35 points in two games this season. Benedetti is now only eight trys away from the school record. In addition, Maria Schweizerhof (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite), Erin Gallagher (Collingdale, Pa./Academy Park), Jeannie Connolly (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and Erin Brosius (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) each recorded five points on one try. Katie Walston (Kennett Square, Pa. / Unionville) recorded six conversions for 12 points in the match. West Chester travels to Kutztown on Saturday, Oct. 11 for a match against the Golden Bears at 11:00 a.m.
