Men’s Basketball Climbs in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Media Poll
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester University's men's basketball has opened its 2017 campaign on a four-game winning streak, resulting in the Golden Rams being placed eighth in this week's D2SIDA Atlantic Region media poll. West Chester (4-0, 2-0 PSAC) went a perfect 3-0 this week with victories against Chestnut Hill, Gannon, and Clarion. On Wednesday, the Golden Rams won in impressive fashion with a 71-45 win at home. Afterwards, they traveled out west to begin Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action against Gannon and Clarion over the weekend. The Golden Rams were victorious with a pair of conference wins to begin the season. Sr., G Tyrell Long (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) played a key role this weekend as he averages a team-high 19 points and 6.3 boards per contest. The senior added 14 points, nine boards, and three steals as the Golden Rams downed host Gannon by a final score of 52-44. Long followed that up by dropping 30 points to go along with seven boards, two steals, and a block en route to a 91-84 victory over Clarion. Tied for the team lead in points is junior forward Jackson Hyland (Avondale, Pa./Kennett). He is averaging 19 points in addition to 4.8 rebounds. This is the best start for the Golden Rams since the 2015-16 campaign when the squad started the season on a seven-game winning streak. West Chester hosts Wilmington University (Del.) on Saturday inside the Schwartz Center at 3 p.m. The Golden Rams are still hosting at Widener University as Hollinger Field House undergoes renovations.
