WCU Prevails in Final Minutes to Defeat Shippensburg
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Carly Yost (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn) found the back of the net in the 88th minute to allow No. 11 West Chester (11-1, 10-1 PSAC) to sneak by host Shippensburg University, 1-0, in a PSAC conference match Tuesday afternoon. Neither team scored before the half, but the Golden Rams were getting good pressure with seven shots, three of which were on goal. The match remained tied until Yost got around a defender who fell down, and blasted a shot into the upper right-hand corner to give West Chester the lead with 90 seconds remaining. Yost recorded her fifth goal of the season on the play, which leads the Golden Rams. West Chester goalkeeper Alex Srolis (11-1) (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East High School)posted four saves in 90 minutes of play to secure her eighth shutout of the season. Shippensburg's Kayla Kennedy registered five saves, while giving up the one goal.
