Miguel Ross Breaks PSAC Record in Victory Over Pittsburgh-Johnstown
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Golden Rams were hitting on all cylinders, shutting out Pittsburgh Johnstown, 6-0, in a PSAC match at Rockwell Field Wednesday afternoon. West Chester (8-5-0, 6-2-0 PSAC) would not let the rain stop them as the Golden Rams jumped out to an early lead in a record setting pace. Brett Glasco (West Chester, Pa. / Rustin) connected with sophomore Miguel Ross (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown) who was racing down the field and registered the first goal of the game 11 seconds in, becoming the fastest goal from the start of a game in PSAC history. Lock Haven's Joe Kadelski previously held the PSAC record by scoring 18 seconds into a match against St. Thomas Aquinas on September 22, 1999. In addition, Ross's goal was tied for the sixth fastest from the start of game in Division II men's soccer history. Senior Tommy Ryan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) continued his hot streak with two goals in the first half, then tacking on an assist later in the match. Giovanni Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame Green Pond) found Ryan for his first goal that deflected into the back of the net off of the goalie's shoulder. Alex Lean (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) then set Ryan up for his sixth goal of the season with a beautiful shot into the upper right corner of the net. In the second half, returned the favor recording the assist for Lean who put West Chester in a commanding lead. At the 50th minute mark, Ross posted his second goal of the game with the assist coming from Lean. West Chester's David Green (Elkton, Md. / Elkton) registered the last goal of the game, which came off a penalty kick. Pittsburgh-Johnstown's Nate Kleya made nine saves, while giving up six goals in 90 minutes of play. Both goalkeepers saw action this afternoon, with freshman Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) picking up his seventh win of the season in 59 minutes of play and recording five saves. Phil Horan (Freehold, N.J. / Freehold Twp) made two saves in 30 minutes to help secure the shutout for the Golden Rams. West Chester travels to Greensburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 25th for a PSAC matchup against Seton Hill University at 2:30 p.m.
