Women's Soccer Claims No. 1 Spot in Regional Rankings
NDIANAPOLIS, IN. - The West Chester University women's soccer team has claimed the top spot in the Atlantic Regional Rankings with an overall record of 14-1-0, 13-1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Golden Rams tacked on two more victories this past week after defeating the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown and Seton Hill University. West Chester cruised to a 9-0 victory over Pittsburgh-Johnstown last Wednesday as multiple players contributed in the win. Senior Dana Hunt (Pittstown, N.J. / Delaware Valley Regional) put West Chester on the scoreboard at the 15 minute mark as she redirected a shot by Carly Henry (Perkasie, Pa. / Pennridge) into the net. Marissa Valenti (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) would post two goals and two assists in the victory. The next wave of Golden Rams registering goals were Haley Mangiaruga (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn), Cynthia Hagerty (Hockessin, Del. / Alexis I Dupont), Maddy Barretti (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central), Scarlett Walsh (Philadelphia, Pa. / Archbishop Ryan), and Laura Slavich (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford). After the win, the Golden Rams headed to Seton Hill University last Saturday, and secured a 2-1 win in double overtime. Valenti chipped in an early goal for West Chester. Sophomore Kara Parvel (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall) was the difference maker, recording two goals. Parvel's first goal tied up the game with a penalty kick, while the other was the game winner in double overtime off of a corner kick. West Chester goalkeeper Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East High School) picked up both wins as she continues to play stellar defense with 10 shutouts on the season. Riding a six game winning streak, the women's soccer team returns home to for consecutive PSAC matchups this week, starting with California University of Pennsylvania on Friday, October 31st at noon. The Golden Rams finish their regular season schedule against Slippery Rock University Nov. 1st at noon.
