Brown’s Hat Trick Propels West Chester Past Mansfield

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Alayna Brown (Telford, Pa. / Souderton) posted a hat trick and an assist as the Golden Rams defeated visiting Mansfield University, 10-0, in a PSAC matchup Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field. West Chester (14-2, 11-1 PSAC) registered nine goals in the first half, which was the most since moving to Division II in 2011. Junior Alexis Versak (Limerick, Pa. / Spring-Ford) found the back of the cage one minute into the contest, redirecting teammate Kristina Scherrer's (Enola, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) shot. Three minutes later Scherrer setup Hannah Davies (Mountaintop, Pa. / Crestwood) for her fourth goal of the season. The Golden Rams continued to attack the Mansfield defense with Alex Moran (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood) contributing an unassisted goal, tallying three goals in six minutes. The next wave of goals was registered by Brown, giving her a natural hat trick in a 10 minute span. Shortly after Brown's last goal, Marnie Kusakavitch (Pittston, Pa. / Holy Redeemer) found Mary Spisak (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) to give West Chester a commanding lead. Caitlin Wood (Plains, Pa. / Coughllin) chipped in with a pair of goals, which were her first two goals of the season. Tacking on the final goal of the day with less than a minute left on the clock was sophomore Alli Morris (Coatesville, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan). Mansfield's Gabrielle Spatz played the majority of time in the cage, saving seven shots while giving up four goals. Laura Lawson began the game as the goalkeeper, posting eight saves but allowing six goals. Picking up her 11th win with five saves in 58 minutes of action for the Golden Rams was sophomore Sarah Krause (11-2) (Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley). Finishing up the last 11 minutes of the game was Audree Bonavita (Collegeville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley), recording three saves in the cage to secure the shutout. The Golden Rams will look to extend their seven game winning streak as they travel to Erie, Pa. for a PSAC matchup with Mercyhurst University on Wednesday, November 5th at 3 p.m.
