Regular Season Finale is a Success for West Chester
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – No. 1 West Chester extended its winning streak to nine games in the regular season finale, defeating No. 10 Slippery Rock, 2-1, in a PSAC matchup Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field. In addition, it was senior day at West Chester as the Golden Rams (16-2, 13-1 PSAC) were able to send their two seniors, Hannah Davies (Mountaintop, Pa. / Crestwood) and Kelsey Cheek (Mays Landing, N.J. / Oakcrest) out with a victory. The Golden Rams struck first as Dayle Paustian (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) was able to convert a penalty stroke for her sixth goal of the season. In the 44th minute, Alexis Versak (Limerick, Pa. / Spring-Ford) redirected a shot by teammate Kristina Scherrer (Enola, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) to give West Chester a commanding 2-0 lead. Slippery Rock's Kylie McCarty posted a goal in the 66th minute, but the late surge was not enough to overcome the two goal deficit. West Chester's Sarah Krause (12-2) (Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) played 70 minutes in the cage, recording two saves while giving up one goal. In the cage for Slippery Rock was Carlee DuMars, posting six saves while surrendering two goals in 70 minutes of action. West Chester has clinched the regular season PSAC title and has earned a bye into the PSAC semifinals. The Golden Rams will host the first semifinal on Friday, November 14th at 1 p.m. with the opponent to be determined.
