West Chester Women Top Concordia; Wooden Picks Up First Win

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Golden Rams opened their 2014-15 campaign with an impressive, 102-55, victory over Concordia College (N.Y.) in the 29th Annual Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament Friday night.

As a result, first-year head coach Kiera Wooden picked up her first win at the helm of the Golden Rams.

This victory marks the 18th time in West Chester women's basketball history that the squad reached the century mark. The Golden Rams last reached that feat back in 2011, defeating Clarion University, 102-68.

Leading the way was junior guard Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West),finishing with 21 points and six assists in 21 minutes of action.

Alongside Sicinski was returning All-American Dallas Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose), contributing 19 points and five rebounds.

Providing a presence in the paint were Serifat Junaid (Chesilhurst, N.J./Camden Catholic) and transfer Mariah Powell (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin). Junaid came away with 13 points while her teammate Powell had nine points and seven boards.

Wooden emphasized the importance of defense and she received it tonight as the Golden Rams forced Concordia College into 30 turnovers.

West Chester concludes the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament tomorrow with a matchup against the University of the Sciences at 4 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House.
