West Chester Women Fall In Quarterfinals To Saint Rose, 2-0
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester made a valiant effort, but fell to the East Region champion, College of Saint Rose, 2-0, in the National Quarterfinal match held at Rockwell Field Sunday afternoon. West Chester (17-3-2) came out of the gate strong, relying on its defense to carry the load. The Golden Rams were outshot 12-1 at the half, but the match remained tied at zero. Saint Rose's Roxan Hernandez found the back of the net in the 48th minute to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Setting up Hernandez in front of the net was Morgan Burchhardt. West Chester went right down the field to answer, but sophomore Kara Parvel (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall) hit the upper-right post. In the 84th minute, Gianna Smith assisted Carmelina Puopolo to tack on another goal to secure the victory. Picking up the win in the net for the College of Saint Rose was Ashley Homer, making one save against the Golden Rams' attack. West Chester's goalkeeper, Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) recorded seven saves in ninety minutes of action while surrendering two goals. The Golden Rams are now 1-5 in six trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The College of Saint Rose advances to the NCAA Division II Fall Festival and the national semifinals in Louisville, Ky., next month where they will play Grand Valley State.
