Derr Named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week
Danbury, Conn. – West Chester University quarterback Andrew Derr (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) offensive player of the week honors for breaking nearly every single-game passing record in the Golden Rams' record book Saturday against Edinboro. Despite his record-setting performance, the Golden Rams fell to the Fighting Scots, 54-51 in double overtime. The red-shirt junior completed 39 of 70 passes for 559 yards, which were all single-game records for West Chester. Derr also managed to provide four passing touchdowns as well, including a pair in the final 3:31 that helped erase a 14-point deficit late in the game. He then completed another touchdown strike in the first OT possession to force a second. Additionally, the signal caller helped racked up a school-record 566 yards of total offense. The offense accounted for two more school records with 108 plays from scrimmage for 758 yards of total offense. Derr's 70 attempts shattered his own school record of 63 attempts that he set last week at home against Slippery Rock. Before that, Dave McDonald had 57 attempts back in 1994 against Millersville. Derr's 39 completions and 559 yards surpassed Mike Mitros in both categories, which had stood for 18 years. This is the first ECAC award for the Golden Rams this season.
