Patten & Rushing Compete for Consolation Championship in ITA Atlantic Regionals
ERIE, Pa. – West Chester University's men's tennis squad continued action today at the ITA Atlantic Regionals being held at the Pennbriar Raquet Club on Saturday. In "A" doubles action, Norman Patten (Warminster, Pa./Council Rock South) and Charlie Rushing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) won their matchup 8-5 to propel them further into the consolation bracket semifinals. The pair later advanced and will be in the finals for the "A" consolation bracket tomorrow. Tony Deimler (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Lucas Von der Heyde (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) advanced in the bracket as well, winning by an identical score. The duo would drop in the semifinals to Edinboro's Vitor Albanese and Fernandez 8-3. In the "B" consolation bracket, Keanu Travelino (Kailua, Hawai'i/W. Hawai'i Explorations Acad.) and Gerald Mars (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) lost 8-2 to a pair from Mercyhurt in the quarterfinals. In "A" singles, senior Von der Heyde played extremely well in day two, but fell to Mercyhurst's Nenad Terzic 6-7, 6-2. Teammate Patten lost as well, 4-6, 6-1, 0-1 to Bluefield's Platon Gud. In the consolation bracket, Deimler dropped a tough one to Edinboro's Daniel Fernandez, 8-4. West Virginia Wesleyan's Nathan Sabate defeated Rushing by a final score of 8-2. In the "B" singles consolation, Joey Graziadei (Royersford, Pa.) captured a victory, 8-2, over Charleston's Marcelo Quevedo. The senior would later withdraw from the tournament. Sophomore Aidan Henken (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) received a bye in the first round of the consolation. He would go on to win his match 8-5 over Mercyhurst's Logan Williams. However, Mars fell to his opponent 8-5 from Mercyhurst. Action will resume tomorrow.
