Walsh’s Pair of Goals Leads WCU over IUP
INDIANA, Pa. – Senior midfielder Scarlett Walsh (Philadelphia, Pa. / Archbishop Ryan) continued her stellar play with a pair of goals to lift the Golden Rams past hosting IUP (Pa.), 3-1, Saturday afternoon. The Golden Rams (11-0-0, 11-0 PSAC) jumped out to an early lead in the 7th minute with Walsh finding the back of the net. IUP's McKenna Keffel responded for the Crimson Hawks, sneaking a goal past senior goaltender Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa/Downingtown East). The score would remain gridlocked at one piece, until junior Julianne Minutillo (Hillsborough, N.J. / Hillsborough) dished out her first assist of the season to Walsh in the 57th minute. Walsh's second of the day proved to be the difference maker, grasping the momentum of the match. West Chester tacked on a penalty goal in the 70th minute by Gabrielle Termini (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood). In goal, Srolis made one save and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of action to register the victory. The senior is now one shy of tying Hilary Smart's program record of 54 career victories. The Golden Rams managed a 17-6 advantage over the Crimson Hawks in shots. Undefeated West Chester returns to Rockwell Field on Tuesday, October 11th for a PSAC conference tilt with East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. This marks the first matchup between the two squads since East Stroudsburg bounced West Chester out of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament a season ago.
