Field Hockey Captures Snell Cup on Senior Day, 3-1
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – In the 70th all-time match between Ursinus College and West Chester University in the Snell Cup series, the Golden Rams were able to capture the victory, 3-1, on senior day in Vonnie Gros Field Sunday afternoon. West Chester (8-6) jumped out to an early lead at the 11:41 mark with senior forward Marnie Kusakavitch (Pittston, Pa./Holy Redeemer)tallying the goal on a breakaway. Kusakavitch was able to elude the goalie and knock it for an early 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) redirected a shot in front of the cage for her 14th goal of the season. Kusakavitch was credited with an assist on the play, giving her three points for her performance Sunday afternoon. Tacking on an additional goal at 39:55 in the second half was Maya Gulliksen (Piscataway, N.J. / Piscataway).The goal was a result of a penalty corner as senior Nikki Bennett (Littlestown, Pa. / Gettysburg) setup Gulliksen for give the Golden Rams a 3-0 lead. Ursinus managed to sneak in a late goal past West Chester's senior goalkeeper Sarah Krause (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley). Krause earned the win in the cage with one save and allowed that lone goal in 70 minutes of action. The victory extends the Golden Rams' lead in the all-time series to, 32-26-12. West Chester shifts their focus to conference play as they host Mansfield on Tuesday, October 14th at 4 p.m.
