Women’s Soccer Advances to PSAC Semifinals after Blanking IUP, 1-0
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester advanced to the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in the quarterfinal round this afternoon inside Rockwell Field. Providing the only goal of the day was senior midfielder Scarlett Walsh (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) in the 53rd minute. Walsh found the back of the net by heading the ball past IUP's goalkeeper Jessica Printz to break the scoreless affair. Fellow senior Carly Henry (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was credited with her second assist of the season for finding Walsh in front of the net. Four-year starter Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) made six saves for the shutout victory in between the pipes. West Chester held an 11-8 edge in terms of shots in the contest. Both squads were given two corner kicks apiece. The Golden Rams (18-0) remain undefeated as they head into their semifinal contest against East Stroudsburg on Friday at Rockwell Field at 11 a.m. During the regular-season meeting between West Chester and East Stroudsburg, Golden Rams freshman Jenny Bail (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) managed to capture the game-winning goal with 45 seconds left to lead the Golden Rams to a 1-0 victory. However, a season ago East Stroudsburg topped West Chester in the PSAC Quarterfinals as well as in the first round of NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament. With West Chester University being the host of the PSAC Tournament, the second PSAC semifinal between (6) Gannon and (2) Kutztown will occur at Rockwell Field at 1:30 p.m.
