Porscha Speller Named PSAC East Athlete Of The Week
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Jr., guard Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) posted a career high 27 points in a PSAC victory over host Slippery Rock on Saturday. Speller helped spark a 19-7 run in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter to capture an 85-78 victory. In the fourth quarter alone, the Lancaster native produced 15 points down the stretch to seal the victory. The junior registered a total of 19 points in the second half, which was the most points scored in a half this season by a West Chester player. The previous mark was actually set by teammate Alexis Anderson in the first half Saturday by contributing 17 points. Speller was a perfect 14-for-14 from the free-throw line, tallying the most FTs made in a contest since Dallas Ely (11) against East Stroudsburg on March 1st, 2016, and the most without a miss since current assistant coach Allison Hostetter made all nine of her attempts against Clarion in 2011. Additionally, she matched a career high four steals in the contest. The following day, the junior managed a team-high 13 points, despite a loss to host Edinboro. Overall, Speller accumulated 40 points, six assists, six rebounds, five steals, and block this weekend. She also shot 50 percent from the field in each of the two games.
