West Chester Struggles against Holy Family in Non-Conference Action, 69-60
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – West Chester's offense struggled from the floor, resulting in a 69-60 loss to host Holy Family in a non-conference match inside Campus Center Gymnasium this afternoon. West Chester (2-7) had its opportunities, but only managed a 37.5 percentage from the floor (24-64) and 19 percent from 3-point range (4-21). Holy Family (3-8) out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) took advantage by being 48.2 percent from the field (27-56) and 33.3 percent from downtown (6-18). There were three players in double figures for the Golden Rams, including Camden Boehner (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) who registered a team and season-high 18 points. Senior Mariah Traywick (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) dropped a career high 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded two steals for the Golden Rams. Meanwhile, fellow senior Tori Smick (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown) chipped in 11 points and a pair of steals as well. West Chester trailed by four to begin the contest, but the Golden Rams generated five unanswered points to capture a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Head coach Kiera Wooden's squad carried that momentum into the second quarter, registering the first six points of the quarter to make it a 11-0 run. Holy Family went on a run of its own, taking back the lead from a Jill Conroy 3-pointer at the 2:31 mark. Conroy finished with 24 points and nine assists in the contest. Both squads continued to exchanged baskets, allowing Holy Family to take a 30-27 advantage into halftime. West Chester struggled in the first half, only shooting 33.3 percent from the field (11-33) and 16.7 percent from downtown (2-12). Holy Family jumped on the Golden Rams right out of the locker room, scoring eight unanswered to open up a double-digit lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Tigers pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring West Chester 21-12 to obtain a 51-39 advantage. Abigail Iannotti managed a double-double for Holy Family with 21 points and 15 rebounds as the Tigers' captured its third win of the season. West Chester is off for the holiday, but will return home for a PSAC showdown with Bloomsburg University on December 30th inside Hollinger Field House at 5:30 p.m. The men's game will follow in the doubleheader at 7:30 p.m. Game Notes The all-time series with Holy Family is now 14-9, which first originated in the 1991-92 season. West Chester snapped a two-game winning streak against the Tigers.
