West Chester Falls to No. 8 California (Pa.)
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester's two-game winning streak came to an end Friday night, falling to No. 8 California (Pa.) inside Hollinger Field House by a final score of 107-73. West Chester (4-8, 4-4 PSAC) never led in the matchup as the the Vulcans (13-1, 7-1 PSAC) controlled the tempo from the opening tip. However, there were four players in double-figures for the Golden Rams in the contest. Senior forward Tori Smick (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown) provided 16 points and eight boards, which were both team-highs for West Chester. The senior has now reached double-figures in her eighth consecutive game for the Golden Rams. Meanwhile, Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was right behind Smick in both categories by generating 15 points and seven rebounds. In the backcourt, junior guard Camden Boehner (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) added 12 points. Fellow junior Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) on the other hand chipped in with 10 points and tied a season-high with seven assists. California's run and gun style allowed them to capitalize in the first quarter, outscoring the Golden Rams 35-21 at the end of one. The Vulcans' Miki Glenn registered 32 points, eight assists, and three rebounds in the victory. West Chester tried to claw its way back into the game, but Glenn never allowed the lead to get within single-digits. The Vulcans forced 27 turnovers in the contest, resulting in 32 points. Additionally, California (Pa.) shot 58.3 percent from the field (42-72), while also going 72.7 percent from downtown (8-11). West Chester managed a 46.7 percent from the floor (28-60) and knocked down five three-pointers for a 38.5 percentage (5-13). Despite the loss, the Golden Rams are still tied for first place in the PSAC East with East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg. West Chester goes on the road for the next pair of PSAC East contests, beginning with East Stroudsburg inside Koehler Field House on Monday, January 9th at 6 p.m.
