Wright Sets Pool Record in Win over Johns Hopkins
BALTIMORE, MD. – West Chester opened up 2017 by coming away with 10 first-place finishes in a win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday, 157.5-103.5. Freshman Georgia Wright (Doncaster, Pa.) won a pair of events for West Chester, while also setting a new pool record in the 1650-yard freestyle that stood since 1991. Wright capture a final time of 17:33.12, which broke the previous record by 3.40 seconds. The freshman registered first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.40 as well. Teammate Emelie Johansson (Taby, Sweden) finished in the top spot of the 100-yard breaststroke for the Golden Rams, finishing with 1:08.93. The sophomore claimed first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.62), while also registering third in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:10.22) too. In the 200-yard butterfly, West Chester took the top two spots. Megan Keithly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) was first (2:11.77), while Felicia Grego (McAdoo, Pa. / Hazleton) generated second five seconds later at 2:16.11. Keithly managed second with a time of 59.76 in the 100-yard butterfly for West Chester. Claiming first in the 50-yard freestyle was Morgan Haney (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) at 25.08. Meanwhile, Tess Hayward (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) came in the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.20) for the Golden Rams. She also placed second with 25.23 in the 50-yard freestyle. Junior Lovissa Nyman-Persson (Umea, Sweden) claimed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.32). In the 100-yard backstroke, Megan Burns (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) obtained second (1:01.00) and right behind her was Elizabeth Miller (Levittown, Pa. / Neshaminy) at 1:01.66. Burns did manage to come away second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.75) for the Golden Rams. Sophomore Sydney Wareham (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) produced the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle (54.09). Freshman Sarah Fisher (Conshohocken, Pa. / Plymouth Whitemarsh) registered third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.62) as well. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, West Chester added another first place finish with a time of 1:39.63. Garnering the top spot were Haney, Hayward, Keithly, and Megan Sensenig (Wyomissing, Pa. / Wilson). Next up for West Chester is the WCU Diving Invitational that will be held on Friday, January 13th at the North Pool inside Hollinger Field House. The competition is set to begin at 5 p.m. and continue the following day.
