West Chester Tops Cheyney Behind Torresin’s 27 Points, 75-64
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Jr., F Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) matched a career-high 27 points to go along with 14 rebounds to help West Chester top PSAC East rival Cheyney, 75-64, inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon. Cheyney (2-9, 2-9 PSAC) jumped out to an early 12-2 advantage to begin the contest in the first three minutes of play. At the end of the first quarter, the Wolves managed to capture a 21-13 lead. However, momentum swung toward West Chester (6-9, 6-5 PSAC) in the second quarter by going on a 13-0 run midway through the period. Eight of the 13 points came from Camden Boehner (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg), who had the hot hand in the first half by producing 18 points. Boehner finished with a season-high 20 points and added four rebounds. The Golden Rams ended the half on a 21-4 run to take an eight-point advantage (39-31) into the locker room. The Wolves clawed their way back in the second half, claiming a one-point lead at the 7:44 mark in the fourth quarter. West Chester responded, particularly due to the stellar play of Torresin. The Cumberland Valley product knocked down a jumper to retake the lead. Afterwards, she hit a 3-pointer to extend West Chester's advantage. Torresin was 55 percent from downtown, contributing five threes (5-9). Meanwhile, Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, and led the team with five dishes. The Golden Rams outrebounded Cheyney by 11 (45-34), but struggled in the turnover column this afternoon with 25 in the contest. West Chester faces Millersville in the second game of its three-game home stand on Wednesday, January 18th at 5:30 p.m. Game Notes The Golden Rams are currently riding a 20-game winning streak against the Wolves. West Chester holds the lead in the all-time series, 60-11, against Cheyney. Torresin has now reached double-figures in her sixth consecutive game and notched her fifth double-double this season. The last time West Chester had a pair of 20 plus scorers in the same game happened on January, 3rd at Mansfield. Speller chipped in 21 points, while Alexis Anderson had 20.
