West Chester Pushes Past Millersville, 78-66; Five Players in Double-Figures
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester's second half push captured the second consecutive PSAC East victory for the Golden Rams, defeating Millersville inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday evening, 78-66. West Chester (7-9, 7-5 PSAC) went on a 19-5 run in a six-minute span during the fourth quarter to register the win over Millersville (6-11, 4-8 PSAC). Despite trailing at the half by a bucket, the Golden Rams would go on to outscore the Marauders by 14 in the second half (44-30). In the victory, West Chester managed to have five players reach double-figures in the scoring column. Additionally, three of those five captured double-doubles. Sr., F Tori Smick (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown) came away with a team-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Golden Rams. Meanwhile, fellow forward Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added 10 points to go along with 11 boards and a pair of steals. Contributing the third double-double of the game was senior forward Mariah Traywick (Limerick, Pa. / Spring-Ford). Traywick's first career double-double for the Golden Rams consisted of 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. The trio helped West Chester control the boards, gaining a 17-8 advantage in terms of second chance points. In the backcourt, junior Camden Boehner (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) continues to shoot the ball well after tallying 20 points against Cheyney. The guard registered 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers and steals. Jr., G Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) on the other hand posted 13 points and three steals. The majority of her points came from the free throw line, going 9 of 12. Overall, the Golden Rams took care of the ball and were able to get to the charity stripe. West Chester went 28 of 39 from the line (71.8%), compared to Millersville's 12 of 18 (66.7%). Furthermore, the Marauders had ten more turnovers that resulted in seven points in West Chester's favor. The Golden Rams finish their three-game home stand with a matchup against Lock Haven on Saturday at 1 p.m. It is also Purple Zone for Kids Day on Saturday inside Hollinger Field House. Additional Notes West Chester trails in the all-time series against Millersville, 43-36, which dates back to the 1970-71 season…This is the first time that the Golden Rams have had five players with 10 or more points in a game since an 81-71 win at Mansfield in 2016… Torresin has now reached double-figures in her seventh consecutive game and notched her sixth double-double this season.
