West Chester Rallies Past Lock Haven, 69-55

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester won its third consecutive game to conclude a three-game home stand, capturing another PSAC East victory with a 69-55 win against Lock Haven this afternoon inside Hollinger Field House. There were four different players for West Chester (8-9, 8-5 PSAC) in double figures as the team remains second in the PSAC East behind Shippensburg. Leading the way was Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic), who registered a team-high 14 points, eight steals, seven rebounds, and five assists. Speller's eight steals is now tied for second all-time in program history in a single contest. The guard is the first player to tally eight steals since Megan Stewart in 2009. Meanwhile, Lock Haven (7-10, 4-9 PSAC) dropped a tough one as the team struggled in the third quarter, only obtaining five points compared to West Chester's 12. Afterwards, a five-minute stretch in the fourth gave the Golden Rams their biggest lead of the game with 17 points. The squad managed to put together a 9-0 run during that span. Head coach Kiera Wooden's squad capitalized on 18 Lock Haven turnovers, resulting in 23 points for the home team. The frontcourt for West Chester did damage as well, tallying a 14-point advantage in the paint (34-20) and 12 more shooting opportunities (66-54). Sr., F Tori Smick (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown) contributed her second consecutive double-double, registering 11 points and 11 rebounds. Adding 14 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Rams was junior Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley). A pair of players who impacted the game in the backcourt were sophomore Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) and freshman Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II). Anderson knocked down perimeter shots, while Troisi provided a career and new team-high nine assists. After wrapping up a three-game home stand, the Golden Rams will head on the road to Kutztown University for a matchup with the Golden Bears on Wednesday, January 25th inside Keystone Arena at 5:30 p.m. Additional Notes West Chester has captured the last 13 consecutive matchups against Lock Haven en route to a 28-11 all-time series record in favor of the Golden Rams… The Golden Rams have won four of their last five games.
