Hyland Leads the Way as West Chester Defeats Mansfield, 94-66
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Golden Rams were able to get back on track with a 94-66 victory over Mansfield inside Hollinger Field House Saturday night. West Chester (9-11, 7-8 PSAC) shot a season best 59.7 percent from the floor (37-62) and 57.9 percent from behind the arc (11-19) as five players finished in double-figures. The Golden Rams put the game out of reach in the second half at the 12:25 mark, registering ten unanswered points over a three-minute span to extend the lead to 20. Visiting Mansfield (7-11, 5-10 PSAC) on the flipside struggled from the floor at 39.6 percent (21-53) and 22.2 percent from downtown (4-18). Leading the way for the Golden Rams was sophomore Jackson Hyland (Avondale, Pa. / Kennett). Hyland came away with a team-high 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. This was Hyland's seventh consecutive game in double-figures and second double-double this season. Jr., G Tyrell Long (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) continues to play well for head coach Damien Blair, adding 18 points in addition to seven boards. In the backcourt, sophomore Malik Jackson (Lansdowne, Pa. / Penn Wood) and Zach Bare (Reiserstown, Md./St. Paul's) contributed a total of 33 points. Jackson scored 17 points to go along with a career-high seven dishes. The Penn Wood product was four of five from downtown and chipped in three steals as well. Bare tallied 16 points and four assists in the victory. Rounding out the players in double-figures was Tim Toro (Scranton, Pa. / Abington Heights). The freshman recorded a career-high 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals. West Chester managed a 14-point advantage in the paint (46-32), while also being a plus seven in the rebounding column (35-28). The Golden Rams travel to Bloomsburg University next for another PSAC East matchup inside Nelson Field House on Wednesday, February 1st with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
