Men’s Track Flashes at Several Competitions This Weekend

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – West Chester's men's track and field had a successful weekend competing in countless events. Fr., Dylan Smiley placed seventh in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:14.59 at the MU Winter Collegiate Invitational. It was the first race that Smiley competed in a Golden Rams' uniform. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Brendan Latimore (Harrisburg / Trinity) and freshman Derrick Clement (Deptford, NJ. / Deptford Township) finished 11th and 12th. Latimore crossed the finish line at 23.63, while Clement came in at 23.70. Meanwhile, West Chester's throwers competed in the Albright Invitational at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania. Bryce Sadler (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) won the shot put with a toss of 46 inches for the Golden Rams. In the weight throw, Nick Robinson (Aston, Pa./Tatnall) claimed second at 46 feet, 9 inches, while Sadler was fourth with 46 feet, four inches. On Friday night, the team participated in the Fast Track National Invite at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York. Justus Norman (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished second in the invite section of long jump and in the triple jump. In the invite section, he leaped 23 feet, ¾ inches. Norman posted a 47 feet, 3 ¾ inches in the triple jump. His triple jump mark is third all time in West Chester and surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Josh Coakley (Honey Brook, Pa./Twin Valley) reached a PSAC qualifying mark in the 800-meter at 1:58.39. Additionally, DeShaun Pickett (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (6.91) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.15), both times were a season best. Sr., Colin Vannicolo (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) finished third in the college section of pole vault by registering a 14 feet, 7 ¼ inches.
