Cornell Sneaks Past West Chester, 194.5-192.025

ITHACA, NY- Cornell University's record setting performance was enough to able to hold off visiting West Chester this afternoon, downing the Golden Rams inside Teagle Gymnasium by a final score of 194.5-192.025. Sr., Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) won three different events for West Chester, taking the top spot on the beam (9.850), floor (9.850), and in the all-around (39.175). Valentine also tied for second on the vault, producing a score of 9.75 as well as being the team's leading scorer on the bars (9.725). Meanwhile, Selena Swanger (Gettysburg, Pa.) contributed a score of 9.775 which finished tied for second on the beam. Additionally, she added a fourth place finish on the vault (9.650). So., Cassie Hageman (Carlisle, Pa.) came away tied for third on the beam behind Swanger with a 9.75. West Chester's Madison Brent (Waxhaw, NC.) was the next closest scorer for the Golden Rams on the floor by tallying a 9.725. Cornell broke its own school record in terms of points (194.5) to slip past West Chester. The difference in the meet was Cornell's ability to excel on the bars, resulting in an overall score of 48.750. Three different members registered scores of 9.800 or higher. The Golden Rams will be in action next Friday when the squad heads to the Philadelphia Convention Center for a matchup with Southern Connecticut State University at 5 p.m.
