Morrissey’s Seven Goals Leads West Chester Past Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Fr., Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) accumulated a new season and career-high with seven goals to go along with an assist to help No. 6 West Chester down host Young Harris College, 17-5, Sunday afternoon. Less than two minutes into the match, West Chester's (3-0) senior Kristen Vath (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) setup Morrissey who found the back of the net to capture a 1-0 advantage.From that point on, the Golden Rams' seized all momentum against Young Harris (4-5). Senior Olivia Martin (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) provided West Chester with a hat-trick to raise her season total to six this season. Meanwhile, senior Dina Cifelli (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) is on a quest for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record for assists in a career. Cifelli contributed four assists, putting her total to 175. That is only nine shy from tying the conference record held by Kayleigh Johnson. Earlier this week, she claimed the top spot in program history, surpassing Stephanie Kienle's record of 170. She finished second on the team today behind Morrissey with five points. Both Emily Schulze (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) and Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added a pair of goals in the win. Barnett also chipped in two assists for four points. Tallying their third goal of the season were Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) and Ali Donohue (Mullica Hill, N.J. / Clearview Regional). West Chester registered 11 of its 17 goals in the first half and outshot Young Harris 34-10. Fr., goalkeeper Nicole Martins (3-0) (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) collected the victory in net, making four saves in the process. The Golden Rams have now won their third consecutive match to begin the season. They will finish up their three-game swing by heading to Millersville next Tuesday for the first conference matchup of the season.
