West Chester Defeats Saint Michael’s College, 9-1
CLERMONT, Fl.- West Chester swept its doubleheader today, defeating Saint Michael's College in the second game by a final score of 9-1 in six innings. Saint Michael's College (0-2) struck first as Danielle Barbato singled to right field to take an early 1-0 advantage. However, West Chester (9-4) responded with nine unanswered runs. Jr., Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) evened the game at one apiece in the bottom of the first with a bunt that scored teammate Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville). Fr., Emily Maseth (2-1) (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) earned the win today after going six innings, while only surrendering one earned run in the game. At the plate, Maseth provided a pair of hits, one of which was the go-ahead run in the second inning to take the lead for good. The Golden Rams registered three runs in the second and exploded for five runs in the sixth to seal it. Ten different members of coach Lokey's squad tallied a hit as the Golden Rams outhit their opponent 17-2. Leading the way at the plate with three hits was Walasavage, who also produced two runs and a pair of runs batted in. Both of her singles in the second and sixth inning knocked in freshman Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg). Garber provided two hits, runs, stolen bases, and added an RBI. West Chester will look to pick up where they left off tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning with Concord University for the second time in the PFX games.
