West Chester Edges Pace, 4-2
CLERMONT, Fl. - Jr., Amanda Houck (5-2) (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) went the distance once again, going seven strong innings without allowing an earned run to lift the Golden Rams past Pace in their third game of the PFX Games, 4-2. West Chester (8-4) gave Houck early run support with Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) singling up the middle to drive in a pair of runs to begin the game. The Golden Rams extended the lead to three in the second inning as Pace University (0-1) walked Sara Ercolani(Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) with the bases loaded. Hammer provided a much-needed insurance run in the sixth to give themselves some breathing room. The junior singled up the middle to knock in teammate Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville) for the second time today. Hammer finished the day with a team-high three hits and three RBIs. Meanwhile, Walasavage stole three bases as well as registering two runs. Pace was threatening in the bottom of the sixth, trailing by three and had runners at the corners. A throwing error brought the game within two. However, Houck was able to get out of the jam by getting them to turn into a double play. West Chester takes on Saint Michael's College next for the second game of its doubleheader.
