West Chester Falls to Concord on Walk-Off, 7-6
CLERMONT, Fl. – Concord's Abby Beatty hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to knockoff West Chester, 7-6, at the PFX games Monday afternoon. West Chester (9-5) entered the seventh inning with a 6-4 lead, but Concord (11-11) compiled a two-out rally that consisted of three runs and Beatty's walk-off to left center to seal it. Jr., Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) was perfect at the plate (3-3) for the Golden Rams with a pair of doubles and a home run for a team-high 3 runs batted-in. The Golden Rams opened up the game with three consecutive doubles to jump out to a 2-0 advantage at the top of the first inning. Ercolani started it off by doubling to left field. Afterwards, Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) hit one down the right field line to score Ercolani. The very next batter was Alyssa Herion (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove), who found a whole on the left side to bring in Hammer. However, Concord responded in the bottom half by providing a double of their own to cut the deficit to one. In the third, Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville) led off the inning with a bunt single. She went on to steal second, but would be stranded. That opened the door for Concord who tallied three runs off of two hits in the fourth. West Chester answered in the fifth with Ercolani hitting a home run to dead centerfield with Walasavage on-base to even the game at four apiece. Walasavage finished the contest three for four with a pair of stolen bases. West Chester capitalized in the seventh by way of a throwing error to take the lead. Another Ercolani double pushed the lead to 6-4. However, a two-out rally proved to be the difference as Beatty hit a two-run homer to left center. Fr., Emily Maseth (2-2) (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) picked up the loss after going 6.2 innings with seven earned runs for the Golden Rams. West Chester split Concord in a pair of head-to-head matchups at the PFX games. In the opener, the Golden Rams won 6-4 for coach Lokey to earn her 400th win at the helm for West Chester. The matchup with Fairmont State University was cancelled due to rain for this evening. No make up will be played.
