Hammer Grabs West Chester’s First ECAC Honor of the Season
Danbury, Conn. - Jr., catcher Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) earned the Eastern College Athletic Conference's (ECAC) player of the week for Division II after excelling at the PFX games down in Clermont, Florida last week. Hammer played a significant part in West Chester's ability to win three out of four games. At the plate, Hammer went produced nine hits (9-13) to go along with seven RBIs. She homered to right-center to open up the games and provided a team-high 3 RBIs to lift the Golden Rams past Concord, 6-4. In the second game of the doubleheader, she went four for four with a pair of doubles and an RBI in a 10-8 loss to Merrimack College. On Sunday, Hammer helped give pitcher Amanda Houck run support by singling up the middle to drive in a pair of runs to begin the game. She provided a much-needed insurance run in the sixth to edge out Pace, 4-2. In a win over Saint Michael's College, she went one for three. This is the first ECAC honor for the Golden Rams in their 2017 campaign.
