West Chester Sneaks by Franklin Pierce, 2-1
CLERMONT, Fl. –West Chester's pair of runs in the sixth inning proved to be enough as the Golden Rams claimed their sixth win at the PFX games against Franklin Pierce Thursday afternoon, 2-1. Jr., (2-0) Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) notched her second win of the season after hurling a complete-game for the Golden Rams. Harner went seven strong innings, holding Franklin Pierce (0-9) to only two hits while striking out four. West Chester (12-5) trailed for most the contest as an unearned run crossed the plate in the third inning. A fielder's choice gave the opposition a 1-0 advantage until the sixth. The turning point in this one came off the bat of Eastern College Athletic Conference's (ECAC) player of the week Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan). Hammer began the top of the sixth by registering a triple for the third consecutive game. Without any outs, coach Lokey elected to utilizeSarah Byham (Westampton, N.J. / Holy Cross) as a pinch runner for the catcher. The very next batter in Alyssa Herion (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) evened the game at one apiece with an RBI single to left field. West Chester worked the base paths as a groundout and a failed pickoff attempt advanced Herion to third. Fr., Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) provided the go-ahead run with a single to left field. Stump's RBI proved to be the difference maker in the low scoring affair. The Golden Rams are now 6-2 at the PFX games with three games remaining. West Chester prepares for its second game with Ohio Dominican University later today.
