Houck Claims PSAC & ECAC's Pitcher of the Week Award
DANBURY, Conn. – West Chester's junior Amanda Houck (9-2) (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) claimed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) pitcher of the week award for her performance at the PFX games down in Clermont, Florida.
Houck compiled three complete-games (two shutouts) for West Chester with 24 strikeouts for a perfect 4-0 record over 24 innings of work this week. Houck only allowed one earned run during that span, while surrendering a total of 13 hits to wrap up the PFX games. Additionally, she posted a career-high 11 strikeouts in a win over Edinboro.
Houck started off the week with a complete-game shutout against Slippery Rock. In those seven innings, she held the opposition to three hits, zero walks, and struck out three batters.
She followed that performance up with her second consecutive complete-game shutout versus Ohio Dominican. Once again, she limited the other team to three hits. The junior contributed six strikeouts and only a walk.
Down the stretch, West Chester turned to Houck in a close game against Dominican College. In the last three frames, she allowed three hits for an unearned run. Otherwise, she accumulated four strike outs without a walk. The Golden Rams capitalized in extra innings, to prevail with a 6-4 score.
Houck saved her best for last in the Sunshine State, tallying her third complete-game of the week. She was masterful, striking out a career-high 11 batters in order to register her fourth win of the week. Her previous high of 10 transpired last season against Chestnut Hill. Houck kept Edinboro off balance in the seven frames, limiting them to four total hits and an earned run.
