West Chester Prevails in Extras Over Dominican College, 6-4
CLERMONT, Fl. – West Chester registered three runs in the top of the eighth to top Dominican College in the PFX games this morning, 6-4. West Chester (14-5) provided a trio of RBI singles in the eighth to capture the victory over Dominican College (5-5). The Golden Rams have now won five straight in the Sunshine State and seven of their last eight. Sr., Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, Pa./Spotswood) provided the go-ahead run in extras off the bat of Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) with a single to center field. Teammate, Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) kept the inning alive with another single to center field, pushing Kelly to third. Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville) knocked in the second run of the inning with a single to third base. Afterwards, Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) capped off the three-run eighth with an RBI single to center field. Providing a team-high three hits this morning was Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan). Her single to left field in the top of the first gave the Golden Rams an early 1-0 advantage. Dominican responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. West Chester capitalized on Dominican errors in the third and sixth to even the game. Courtney Stump's (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown)fielder's choice brought the game to 3-3. West Chester had three different pitchers in this one as Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) got the start. She lasted 2.1 innings, allowing three runs but only one of which was earned. Replacing Maseth was Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett), who only surrendered one hit the next 2.2 innings of play. Down the stretch, West Chester turned to junior Amanda Houck (8-2) (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley). She finished the last three frames with four strikeouts and an unearned run to collect her eighth win of the season. Overall, the Golden Rams are 8-2 on their spring break heading into their last game of the trip against Edinboro.
