Women’s Tennis Propels Past Philadelphia University, 9-0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – West Chester tallied its second consecutive win this spring, defeating host Philadelphia University Tuesday afternoon, 9-0. The Golden Rams (7-2) have now three of out their first four matches to open up the spring semester. Fresh off of PSAC athlete of the week honors, senior Claire Uhle (Blue bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) provided a pair of wins in singles and doubles. In singles, she notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Philadelphia's Linde Zwaan. For doubles, Uhle alongside Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) registered an 8-0 sweep. Shaak claimed a singles match as well, defeating Emily Zygmunt 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) posted two wins with the first being in doubles with Gracyn Towler (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville). The duo came away with an 8-1 win. Power followed that performance up with a singles victory against Marissa Sampaio by scores of 6-0, 6-1. The clinching match came from West Chester's Abriana Nolan (Honesdale, Pa. / Honesdale) in a 6-0,6-2 win while teammate Sophie Rathmell (Lancaster, Pa. / MCaskey) finished off the ninth consecutive set at 6-1, 6-0. Incorporated into the nine sets were a pair of default wins. West Chester's next match on Saturday will be the home opener of the spring season as well as the beginning of PSAC play. The Golden Rams face Kuztown with action starting at 1 p.m.
