No. 18 West Chester Baseball Splits with Millersville on the Road

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – No. 18 West Chester split a PSAC East doubleheader against host Millersville this afternoon inside Cooper Park by final scores of 11-6 and 4-2. The Golden Rams (15-6, 7-3 PSAC) exploded for three homeruns and 11 runs to grab the first game of the doubleheader. A six-run sixth was the difference in the game as it was back-and-forth until that point. Millersville (19-9, 5-5 PSAC) struck first by jumping out to an early 3-0 advantage. However, the Golden Rams chipped away one inning at a time to get back into the game. So., OF Drew Jarmuz (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) took a pitch over the left field fence to get them on the board in the second inning. He finished the game by going 3-for-4 with three runs as well as three RBIs. Returning to the lineup this afternoon after missing time was senior Nick Bateman (Aston, Pa / Malvern). Bateman added a pair of RBIs in his return by singling up the middle to even the game at three apiece in the third. So., INF Jared Melone (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) blasted a homerun to left in order to give West Chester a 4-3 lead in the fourth. Millersville responded with a two-run homerun of its own in the bottom half to jump back in front. In the fifth, Clay Harwick (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) ground out to shortstop, but in the process brought home Jarmuz to tie it up once again. West Chester took control of the game in the sixth as Jarmuz doubled to right field to put the Golden Rams on top, 7-5. Harwick registered a triple to keep the inning alive, finishing tied for the team-high in RBIs at three. Teammate, Anthony Salomone (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) sealed it when he belted his team-leading fifth homerun of the season. Salomone came away 3-for-4 in the game. Additionally, Shane Dressler (York Haven, Pa. / Red Land) was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks. So., RHP Jon Fisher (3-1) (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) went six strong innings to tally the win for the Golden Rams on the mound. The sophomore allowed five hits and five earned runs over the course of those six innings. The nightcap was a different story for skipper Jad Prachniak. Millersville's Tyler Yankosky managed to provide 6.2 innings of no-hit baseball against the Golden Rams to capture game two. He was in the zone with a no-hitter in his grasp, until Jarmuz broke it up by doubling down the right field line with two outs. Bateman put West Chester on the scoreboard next by contributing a two-run single to right field. A single by Salomone put the tying run on first base. However, Yankosky was able to close the door on West Chester's comeback as they fell 4-2. Sr., RHP Eric Close (2-2) (Berwyn, Pa./Haverford) suffered the loss on the hill as he was outdueled by Yankosky. Close finished the game by going six innings with four runs crossing the plate (three earned). The senior provided eight strikeouts, while walking a pair of batters as well. West Chester continues PSAC action as Millersville invades Serpico Stadium tomorrow with first pitch at 1 p.m.
