Women’s Track and Field Thrives at WCU Invitational; Kosenske Breaks School Record
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester's women's track and field continues to thrive in the spring as a program fell at the WCU Invitational inside John A. Farrell Stadium on Saturday. The story of the day was the tremendous leaping ability of Sarah Kosenske (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley), who broke her own school record in the triple jump. Her jump of 39 feet, 10.5 inches resulted in an NCAA Provisional mark. Registering a first-place finish as well was Amanda Kodis (Garnet Valley, Pa. / Garnet Valley) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She came in a minute faster than the next person to cross the finish line at 12 minutes, 9.84 seconds. West Chester claimed the top three spots in the 400-meter dash too. Kate Woolam raced her way to a first-place finish (59.27), while Dara Lindsey (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) came away second (59.42). Right behind her was DeJanee Fells (York, Pa. / Central York) at 59.66 seconds. In the process, Woolam and Fells reached PSAC qualifying marks. The team continued to excel, especially in the 800-meter run with the team taking the top five spots in the event. Earning first with a new personal record was Laura Slavich (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford). Her time of 2 minutes, 16.01 seconds placed her fifth all-time in program history. The four members behind Slavich iin order were Emily Dusellier (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton), Allison Lewis (Montrose, Pa. / Montrose), Jasmine Cisco, and Diana Dunn (Media, Pa./Penncrest). The 100-meter dash consisted of three members of West Chester's squad in the top five as well. Alyson Hall (West Chester, Pa./East) placed second (12.57), while Emily Magnant (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Jasmine Noble (Chalfont, Pa. / Central Bucks South) finished behind her. Hall claimed the top spot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.72 seconds as well. Sarah Garner (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall) achieved second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.49) and teammate Caroline DiJiosia (Plymouth Meeting, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh) provided third in the event (15.71). DiJiosia added third in the long jump too for the Golden Rams. Meanwhile, Caroline McLaughlin (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) contributed a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.59). The 4x400 meter relay was a success for West Chester as the "A" squad took first with a time of 3 minutes, 58.93 seconds. In the field, West Chester's Holly Szita (Allentown, Pa. / Salisbury) tied for the top spot in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 2.25 inches. The duo of Sammi Lowery (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and Rachel Groden (Abbottstown, Pa. / New Oxford) finished tied for second in the pole vault at 10 feet, 2.5 inches. Taylor Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa./Milton Hershey) excelled in the long jump and triple jump for the Golden Rams. Pugh was fourth in the long jump (16'7") and second in the triple jump (38' 5"). West Chester has completed its home events for the spring and will head to Kutztown next for the Mondschein Multi's inside Andre Reed Stadium on Friday.
