Dressler Lifts No. 17 West Chester Past Kutztown

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Jr., Shane Dressler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) went 5-for-7 with 5 RBIs at the plate to help No. 17 West Chester wrap up a four-game sweep against Kutztown this afternoon by final scores of 5-0 and 10-5. Jr., RHP Mike Cipolla (3-2) (Newark, De / Charter School of Wilmington) tossed a four hit, complete-game shutout in game one of the doubleheader for the Golden Rams. West Chester (22-6, 13-3 PSAC) capitalized in the fourth inning, scoring five runs off of six hits. On senior day, second baseman Joe Sherran (Springfield, Pa. / Springfield) led off the foruth with a double down the left field line. Fr., Corey Webb (Easton, Pa. / Easton) would put the Golden Rams on the board with a double to center field that scored Sherran. Sr., Robert Knox (Hatboro, Pa. / Upper Moreland) provided a RBI single for a 2-0 advantage. A pair of errors opened the door afterwards, extending the inning that led to three more runs. Game two was a back-and-forth battle as both Kutztown (12-21, 3-13 PSAC) and West Chester exchanged the lead. The Golden Bears capitalized on four errors in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Dressler responded with one of his three hits in the game to even the game at two apiece. Drew Jarmuz (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville)put the ball in play to tack on another run. However, Kutztown reclaimed the lead with three hits and three runs in their half of the next inning. Trailing 5-3 in the fourth, Jared Melone (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) roped a double to left center that cleared the bases. Melone ended the game 2-for-3 with three runs as well as those three RBIs. Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa. / Unionville) got ahold of a pitch and stroked it down the right field line for an RBI double. Meanwhile, Dressler added an RBI single and two-run double to finish out game two. Sr., RHP Josh McClain (5-0) (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) was called upon in the fourth inning to help limit the damage. He finished out the game, allowing one hit through four innings to secure the victory. West Chester's offense continues to excel, registering 22 hits in the doubleheader. Knox finished the day 5-for-7 in the leadoff spot. The Golden Rams are currently on a seven-game winning streak, while also being atop the PSAC East standings. West Chester will head Citizens Bank Park next, home of the Philadelphia Phillies for the Bill Giles Tournament against the University of the Sciences on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
