IUP Tops West Chester in PSAC Semifinals
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - West Chester University's women's tennis team fell to Indiana (Pa.) in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament held at Bloomsburg University this afternoon, 5-0. The Golden Rams dropped the first three sets of doubles competition. The duo of Claire Uhle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) lost a tough one in doubles play, 8-4. Meanwhile, Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) alongside Gracyn Towler (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) fell 8-3. Lastly, Abriana Nolan (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Steph Cifarelli (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) were defeated 8-1. In terms of singles, Sophie Rathmell (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) was topped by IUP's Rachel Wood 6-2, 6-1. The determining match that clinched the 5-0 victory for IUP was Sophie Butland over Cifarelli 6-0, 6-1. West Chester finished with a 14-3 record, while having been crowned the Eastern Division Champion for three straight seasons. IUP (18-5) advances to Saturday's PSAC Championship against Mercyhurst.
