No. 14 West Chester Sweeps Bloomsburg in a Thriller

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – A seven run seventh inning allowed West Chester's Joe Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) to provide a game-winning single in the eighth to lift West Chester in game two of the doubleheader over Bloomsburg 10-9. The Golden Rams also prevailed in game one by a final score of 4-0 to sweep the Huskies inside Serpico Stadium this afternoon. West Chester (26-7, 16-4 PSAC) entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 9-2. Sr., Nick Bateman (Aston, Pa / Malvern) got the rally started by tripling to right center. It was one of his team-high three hits in the game. Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa. / Unionville) would get hit by a pitch to put two men on for Jared Melone (North Wales, Pa./North Penn). With one swing of the bat, Melone cut the deficit to four after launching a homerun over the left field fence. The next two batters flied out and popped, therefore giving West Chester only one more out. Sr., Anthony Salomone (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) kept the inning alive with a two-out double down the left field line to make it 9-7.Clay Harwick (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) came on to pinch hit and singled up the middle to make it a one run ballgame. Capping off the four runs with two outs and seven total was Bateman as the team batted around. From that point, momentum was going West Chester's way and carried into the eighth as Sherran won the game with his knock to left. When asked about the seven run seventh, skipper Jad Prachniak stated "there is no clock in this game." "We had eight plus good at-bats. We fed off each at-bat and put the game within reach. Our team did a god job of finishing it off." Sr., reliever Josh McClain (7-0) (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) registered the win after throwing a scoreless eighth inning. It was his second win in two days for the Golden Rams. Prior to the late game heroics, the Golden Rams took the first game against the Huskies (21-19-1, 8-11-1 PSAC) by a final score of 4-0. Jr., RHP Mike Cipolla (4-2) (Newark, De / Charter School of Wilmington) pitched a gem, surrendering only one hit over the course of seven innings. Cipolla provided a pair of strikeouts in the process of throwing a complete-game shutout. West Chester accumulated all of its runs in the sixth inning, beginning with a two-run homerun to right field by Shane Dressler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land). Sheeran would then add an RBI double to left center and later score on a wild pitch. West Chester will host Mansfield University as PSAC continues on Friday. First pitch for the doubleheader inside Serpico Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
