No. 20 West Chester Sweeps East Stroudsburg; Houck Sets Single-Season Record
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – No. 20 West Chester swept visiting East Stroudsburg in PSAC action this afternoon by final scores of 7-3 and 3-0. West Chester (37-9, 10-2 PSAC East) captured game one, 7-3, with another complete game performance provided by junior left-hander Amanda Houck (25-2) (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley). Houck set a school records for wins a single season, surpassing Kim Murl and Shannon Padula who were both at 24 wins. The victory this afternoon extends her school-record of consecutive winning decisions to 22 straight. She allowed three runs (one earned) over the course of seven innings, while adding five strikeouts. Swinging a hot bat as of late is junior outfielder Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), who went 2-3 in game one with a double and a pair of RBIs. The Golden Rams scored five runs in the fourth inning to give them a 5-0 advantage. Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) contributed her team-best seventh homerun in the fifth and Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) singled up the middle in the sixth to round out the scoring. In the night cap, freshman Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster) tossed a complete game shutout. Over seven innings, Maseth limited the opposition to three hits in the game two of the doubleheader. The only scoring came in the third inning, when Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./ Archbishop Ryan) launched a three-run homerun over the left field fence. On Friday, West Chester hosts rival Kutztown in a showdown for the top spot in the PSAC Eastern Division. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
