Vannicolo and Norman Score USTFCCCA All-Region Honors
NEW ORLEANS, L.A. — West Chester's men's track and field team had two members of its squad receive All-Region honors by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2016-17 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season. Earning the recognition were junior Justus Norman (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) as well as senior Colin Vannicolo (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown). This pair also gathered this honor for their performance during the 2017 Indoor Track & Field season. During the 2017 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Norman contributed a leap of 24 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump to claim the individual championship. In addition, he set a new school record and hit an NCAA provisional distance despite the rainy conditions. The junior also produced third-place in the triple jump. The Lancaster native provided a jump of 47 feet, 3.5 inches. Vannicolo on the other hand accumulated 6,637 to win the decathlon on the second day of competition. He hit an NCAA provisional mark in the process. The senior was slated first in three different events, including the 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, and the high jump. Norman and Vannicolo were both All-PSAC with their final tallies. The process for the distinction was broken down by the top five individuals in each event from their respected region. West Chester's Norman and Vannicolo came out of the Atlantic Region. There was a total of 671 men from 144 different institutions made up the 913 men's All-Region honors.
