Men’s Tennis Begins Season at ITA Atlantic Region Individual Championships
ERIE, Pa. – West Chester University's men's tennis squad opened up its 2017-18 campaign at the ITA Atlantic Regionals inside the Pennbriar Racquet Club on Friday. Singles
Lucas Von der Heyde (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) suffered a tough loss to the top seed Vitor Albanese from Edinboro University by scores of 6-2, 6-1.
In a fantastic match, teammate Norman Patten (Warminster, Pa./Council Rock South) registered a win over West Virginia Wesleyan's Alex Lyudinovsky. The senior took the victory 4-6, 7-6 (7), 1-0 (4).
Fellow senior Charlie Rushing (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) dropped his match to Bluefield State's Rudenco, 6-2, 6-1.
Freshman Lucien DeCecco(Exton, Pa./ Downingtown East) battled hard but ultimately suffered a tough loss at the hands of Kevin Mboko from Edinboro by scores of 6-3, 6-1.
Fellow freshman Gavin Kenny(Hanover, Pa./ South Western) registered a big win over Jacob Adkins from University of Charleston (Wv.) in his collegiate tennis debut in a tough match by scores of 7-6 (3), 6-4.
Doubles
West Chester's duo of Rushing and Patten fell to a pair from the University of Charleston, 8-4.
Meanwhile, Von der Heyde and Gavin Kenny (Hanover, PA / South Western) lost to Charleston's Quevedo and Cajas, 8-5.
The pair of Adam Courtemanche (Greenville, RI / Smithfield) and Lucien DeCecco (Exton, PA / Downingtown East)dropped a tough one to another duo from Charleston with a score of 8-6.
