Palmer’s Record-Setting Performance Earns PSAC Honors
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sr., GK Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) rewrote the record books last week, which resulted in the senior being named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Co-Athlete of the Week with Gannon's Eduardo de Bonis Encinoso. The honor was announced by that same organization this morning. Palmer registered six saves as the senior shutout visiting Seton Hill in a 1-0 victory. His shutout put his career total to 16, sliding him into the top spot in the record books. He surpassed Joe Bocklet (1995-1998) and Sean Gablehouse (1998-2001) with the shutout. The senior is also tied for first all-time with eight shutouts in a single-season. His 12 wins places him second in wins in a single-season as well. West Chester finished the regular season with a perfect 11-0-0 record in conference action, which was its best PSAC record in team history. This marks the first conference honor for Palmer and West Chester in 2017. It is the third overall award this fall with the others coming from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Fr., Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) received Rookie of the Week, while Tyler Rapposelli (Reading, Pa./ Fleetwood) was awarded ECAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season. Men's soccer is back in action on Friday as they await their opponent for the PSAC Tournament semifinal. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
